President Grants Governor Lynch's Request For Assistance for Individuals

President Obama today granted Governor John Lynch's request for assistance for individuals in Carroll and Grafton counties whose homes and property suffered damage as a result of Tropical Storm Irene.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency is expected announce registration procedures shortly. FEMA teams are in state and will begin tomorrow reaching out to individuals in those two counties to assist them in filing claims for assistance. Individuals must meet FEMA guidelines in order to qualify for assistance.

"A number of homeowners in New Hampshire suffered signicant damage as a result of Tropical Storm Irene, and the devastation to the Transvale Acres area of Conway was among the worst I have witnessed as Governor resulting from flooding," Governor Lynch said. "While federal assistance will not make homeowners whole, it will help. I am pleased the president granted our request and we will continue working with FEMA as we recover from this storm."

Homeowners should collect and retain estimates from contractors, bills for actual expenditures, photographs - any records that may be used to establish the amount of losses. Even if a homeowner has already reported damage to 2-1-1 they must file a claim with FEMA. Reporting damage to 2-1-1 only assisted the state in collecting data and did not qualify anyone for assistance.

Last Friday, Governor Lynch sent a letter to President Obama urging him to declare a major disaster for New Hampshire due to the significant damage done to roads, bridges and other public infrastructure, as well as damage to homes and businesses.
